Conversely, it has left a vacuum where none really know how the military (a continuing legacy of Mubarak) will respond to the desires of the Egyptian people. Already we have seen that protesters have been detained and abused in large numbers, but will they be exempted from the torture and ill treatment that is systematic in the country?
