Stop the War Coalition Sydney invites you to join us to protest 10 years of US-led war and occupation in Afghanistan at Sydney Town Hall on Saturday, October 8 at 12 noon.
Occupying forces haven’t even bothered to keep count of all the innocent Afghan civilians who have been killed by this war of terror, but the numbers either dead or displaced runs into the millions.
The 10th anniversary of 9/11 saw extensive media coverage of the personal tragedy suffered by those who lost loved ones in the attack on the twin towers. There was no attention paid to the countless numbers in Iraq and Afghanistan who have had to bury family members as a result of wars waged by the US in the wake of 9/11.
Instead of liberation and democracy, 10 years of occupation has brought rising levels of violence and corruption, and has helped to entrench the power of the warlords.
According to the latest essential poll, nearly two thirds of Australians want the troops out of Afghanistan, yet Gillard refuses to even consider the idea – with each dead Australian soldier she simply trots out the same tired rhetoric about staying the course and “fighting terrorism.”
Join us at Sydney Town Hall on Saturday, October 8 to demand an end to the war. Meeting at 12 noon for some speeches, and then marching to Martin Pl to remember ALL the war dead.
Please wear something BLUE if you can.
Blue is a colour associated with the peace movement in Afghanistan.
If you don’t have anything blue, you can always buy a blue Malalai Joya 2011 tour commemorative t-shirt – we will be selling them on the day.
