1. Stop the War Coalition aims to stop the so-called “war on terror” declared by the United States in 2001 and supported by the Howard, Rudd and Gillard governments.
2. The US-led wars on Afghanistan and Iraq have killed hundreds of thousands of people, caused immense injury, material suffering and trauma, generated political and economic instability, and led to increased racism and attacks on civil liberties.
3. We campaigned against the invasion of Iraq, and continue to campaign in support of the wishes of most Iraqi people, and many US military families, for an end to the occupation. Obama’s “pull out”, in August 2010, leaves behind 50,000 US troops on permanent bases.
4. We opposed the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 and are working to mobilise the opinion of the 61% of Australians (according to a June 22 Essential Poll), who believe the Australian troops should be withdrawn.
5. We support the right to self-determination of all peoples.
6. We demand an end to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine and justice for all Palestinians in Israel, the Palestinian territories and the refugee diaspora, including the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland.
7. We oppose the racist backlash generated by the “war on terror” and campaign to stop the erosion of civil rights.
8. The Coalition provides a forum for united initiatives in broad opposition to these wars and occupations aimed at mobilising the greatest numbers of people. Affiliates of the Coalition are free to develop their own analyses and organise their own actions. The Coalition also encourages the formation of local community peace groups.
9. The Stop the War Coalition is open to all who support these aims and objectives. It makes decisions by simple majority vote. There is no executive or paid office-holders.
10. The Coalition calls on all peace-loving people and organisations to join with us in building a mass movement to stop further invasions and resist the occupation of Afghanistan and Palestine.
